Curbside pick-up is a go

We are excited to launch our curbside pick-up service this week!  Our first open pick-up times will be on Friday May 29, 2020.  Here’s the scoop or get all the details here.

Placing holds

Pick-ups

    • We will notify you once we have your items ready and let you know the soonest pick-up time available.
    • Branches, including washrooms, are still closed.
    • Only 1 person at a time in the entrance-way for pick-up at a time.
    • Please only pick up your bag with your last name and last 5 digits of your card.

We ask for your patience during this new process as we get our bearings. Your holds may take longer to reach you. We’re looking forward to “seeing you” again!

Curbside pick-up plans

Rideau Lakes Public Library staff miss seeing library members and appreciate being a valuable part of the community. As we move to the next phase of service we need to make sure we’re taking all of the proper steps to ensure our safety and yours.  We are working hard on plans to launch a curbside service that will ensure staff are able to take care of the back-log of returned items, a safe system of loans and returns is in place and proper sanitation supplies are available.

The Rideau Lakes Public Library eagerly anticipates library resources, including books, DVDs, magazines and talking books, to be available again through a holds and pick-up system.  We will be offering hold requests at a later date through our online catalogue, by phone, and email.  In the meantime, digital collections remain available and we provide virtual programs such as our popular online storytime with Laura Lee.

We are here for you and we look forward to soon announcing our expected start-up date and details on this curbside service.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Vicki (vicki@rlpl.ca).

Library operations update

At Rideau Lakes Public Library we value you as a library member, your access to information and the safety of our community.  As CEO/Chief Librarian I want to let all of our members know that we are following the emergency measures taken by all levels of government and recommendations from public health authorities.

For this reason, all of our branches remain temporarily closed.  Your library staff is working tirelessly behind the scenes, from home, to continue to deliver the best service and programming in novel and creative ways.  We are all doing our part to keep our community safe in trying to limit the short and long-term impacts of the Covid-19 virus.

Please note that during this time:

  • we are offering eCollections and virtual programs
  • Wifi continues to be available outside of all branches
  • dropboxes are available for returning items but you are welcome to keep items at your home in the interim
  • any outstanding or overdue items will be renewed
  • any fines on DVDs will be forgiven
  • the holds feature on our online catalogue is not available at this time

You are able to check out eBooks, eAudiobooks, music and more with our fantastic e-collections : Overdrive/Libby, Hoopla & Flipster Contact us at info@rlpl.ca if you are having difficulty logging in or can’t access your PIN.

We will continue to look to public health officials and our municipal partners to assess the changing situation.  We will let you know of any further changes through http://www.rlpl.ca, our newsletter, and social media sites.

Thanks for your ongoing support and patience during challenging times.  We’re all in this together and we will get through it together.

April showers bring May flowers

Spring is in the air, and this week it’s finally here! This season brings extended daylight, rising temperatures, and the rebirth of flora and fauna. Now is the perfect time to check out our eCollections as we increased our Hoopla limit to 6 plus Hoopla is offering bonus borrows, we have added new titles to Overdrive/Libby just for our patrons, You (which means shorter wait times) and don’t forget about Flipster to check out the latest magazine issues. Although we aren’t able to open the library doors due to COVID-19 protocols, staff are still keeping busy answering your questions and keeping the system in working order. Staff are also using this time researching on all the amazing reads out there so they can keep you informed on what to read next (check out the Staff Picks Page to see what everyone has recommended)
