Library update (Covid-19)

Library operations update – March 13, 2020

At Rideau Lakes Public Library we value access to information and community safety.  As CEO/Chief Librarian I want to let all of our members know that all staff and Board are being pro-active in our approach to Covid-19.

Currently our branches remain open, except for South Elmsley branch as the Lombardy Public School location is closed until April 6.   South Elmsley members are encouraged to visit the Portland branch and to go there to pick up any holds.

Staff are following hygienic measures including hand sanitation, cleaning of work surfaces and public access point, staying home if unwell and social distancing.

We encourage any library members who feel unwell to stay home.  Those who can not get in to pick up materials can call or email their local branch or myself vicki@rlpl.ca and we can arrange for home delivery and pick-up.

Feel free to make use of our fantastic e-collections : Overdrive/Libby, Hoopla & Flipster

The safety of our staff and library members is our utmost concern and we will look to public health officials and our municipal partners to assess the changing situation.  We will let you know of any further changes through http://www.rlpl.ca, our newsletter, and social media sites.

One of the best tools in our fight against viral pandemics is awareness and accurate information so we have gathered a list of resource from trusted sources.  Working together we can help to ensure that COVID-19 does not lead to unnecessary fear or division in our community.  RLPL’s priority is to help keep the public and our staff safe, healthy and informed.

March springs ahead

March brings the promise of a change in seasons and we have lots of changes taking place at the library so please stay tuned.  There is plenty to do this month: sign up the kids for March Break fun, take in “A beautiful day in the neighbourhood” adult movie, and join in another popular paint class.  Set your clocks Sunday March 8; from now on the days really do feel longer!

We’ve got a new plan

Rideau Lakes Public Library is excited to release their new strategic plan for the period of 2020 to 2024.  Included in the plan is a new vision and mission statement that represents our commitment to inspiring and connecting the community.

The strategic plan will be a guidepost for the Rideau Lakes Public Library Board over the next five years and outlines specific directions on where to focus energy and resources.  Some of these goals include building welcoming and accessible spaces, spreading the word of what the library has to offer, and providing innovative services.

We appreciate the feedback from library staff, members, and volunteers as well as participation from community partners that went into the building of the plan.
