November newsletter

November seems to be the time of year for slowing down; maybe a bit of reflective reading or plenty of binge watching!  However you like to start hibernating, we’ve got you covered.  All November and December we are amping up our number of eBooks and eAudiobooks with Hoopla.  We’ve also got more eAudiobooks on Overdrive, just for Rideau Lakes Public Library members.  Or take out one of our fabulous DVD series when the weather turns.

We all need Friends!  Everyone is welcome at the table at the Friends of the Rideau Lakes Public Library Annual General Meeting, Thursday November 14th 11am-12pm at the Portland branch.

eBooks for all

Are you concerned about longer waiting times and higher prices for eBook lending through the library?  Visit ebooksforall to find out more about the limits and price tags the Big Five publishers have imposed on public libraries.  You can sign the petition to add your voice.  Access to information and reading choices matters!

The video clip below covers a public library in Toledo, Ohio US, but similar lending practices apply to Ontario public libraries.

October newsletter

It’s Canadian Library month and there is so much to celebrate at your library in October!  We kick off the month by thanking you, our members, with an appreciation week so drop by from October 7th to October 13th to any and all of our branches for fall treats and a chance to win a gift basket.  We’re also celebrating First Nations Public Library week (September 29 to October 5) with some fresh Indigenous reads.  Next up is Ontario Public Library Week from October 20th to 26th, so keep stopping by: a visit will get you thinking.
